How Do I Know If My Child Needs Help?
Steps 2 Reading, LLC, works with individuals with mild to moderate gaps in reading and spelling as well as students with more severe reading challenges including dyslexia and language-based disabilities.
If your child exhibits any of the following characteristics, he or she may benefit from Steps 2 Reading tutoring:
- Performs below peers
- Reads in a slow, labored manner that lacks fluency
- Knows many words by sight but has difficulty reading new words
- Often guesses at words
- Experiences low self-confidence
- Reverses letters (e.g. confuses b and d, saying “did” for the word bid)
- Inverses letters (e.g. confuses b and p, saying “pelt” for belt)
- Inserts letters (e.g. says “munch” for much)
- Deletes letters (e.g. says “rib” for crib)
- Substitutes letters (e.g. says “miss” or “mesh” for mess)
- Transposes letters (e.g. says “emeny” for enemy or “blod” for bold)
- Has learned to speak and understand English as a second language but cannot read or write it
Steps 2 Reading, LLC, also assists students with Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder to improve their skills in reading and spelling.
