“Hey, Ms. Heidi. I’ve found a book I’d like to read, but I don’t know if it’s at my level. How do I know if it’s too hard?”What a great question! Use the Five Finger Rule:
- Choose a page near the beginning of the book and read it.
- Hold up a finger each time you don’t know how to read a word.
- Stop if you reach five fingers before the end of the page. The book is too hard right now. Look for an easier book.
- If you read the whole page and have less than five fingers up, the book is probably just right for you. Enjoy it!
